Joe Ryan earned his seventh win, tied for most in the majors, and Edouard Julien and Ryan Jeffers each homered to lead the host Minnesota Twins to a 7-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon.
Willi Castro went 2-for-3 with a steal of home and scored twice for Minnesota, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Reliever Jhoan Duran, who got the final two outs for the Twins, threw three fastballs clocked at 104 mph or higher.
Ryan (7-1) grinded through five innings to tie Tampa Bay's Shane McClanahan for most victories. Ryan allowed one run on six hits and two walks and struck out six while throwing 107 pitches. It snapped a streak of 10 consecutive starts of throwing at least six innings.
Lamonte Wade Jr. had two hits and a walk. Brandon Crawford had a double and two walks, and Thairo Estrada had a double and two hits for San Francisco, which had a three-game win streak snapped and lost for just the second time in the last nine games.
The Giants finished 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left 15 men on base.
Anthony DeSclafani (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits in five-plus innings. He walked two and struck out six.
Julien gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when he led off with his third home run, a 407-foot drive to left-center.
San Francisco tied it in the second when Mike Yastrzemski led off with a double and scored on a single by Casey Schmitt.
The Twins took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second when Castro led off with a double and scored on a double by Matt Wallner, who scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Julien.
Minnesota extended its lead to 5-1 in the third, parlaying three San Francisco errors and a hit batter into two runs. Kyle Farmer started the rally when he reached on a two-out error by Crawford, went to second when Castro was hit by a pitch and scored when Wallner's routine grounder went through the legs of second baseman Brett Wisely. Castro then stole home on the front end on a double steal.
Julien walked, advanced to third on a single by Donovan Solano and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-1 in the fourth.
San Francisco loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth on a double by Crawford, a bunt single by Wisely and a walk by Wade. But reliever Brock Stewart rebounded to strike out Estrada and got Mitch Haniger to pop out, and Jovani Moran ended the threat by getting Michael Conforto to ground out.
Jeffers ended the scoring in the sixth with his second homer of the season, a 433-foot line drive off the facing of the second deck in left-center.
